Some of you may be reading this and asking, “What the hell is a chaddi anyway?” Chaddi in Hindi means underwear. This should probably pique your interest.
I heard about this a few days ago and think it’s absolutely brilliant. It’s kind of useless for me to rehash the whole story in my own words when someone else has done it very well already, so here is the the link to that.
Hindu fringe elements like the Shri Ram Sena give Hinduism a bad name. The rule of thumb for Hindus is to treat every woman with the same respect as though they were your mother or sister. Times are changing and women are more empowered in India and elsewhere. To try to violently bring them back into some ultraconservative way of living, where women are forever subservient to the demands of men, is foolish and horrific. Women will not be embarrassed anymore. We will live and love freely.
So please support the Pink Chaddi campaign. Visit their website and join their Facebook group. Mail pink undies to the Shri Ram Sena. I’d go so far as to say mail large, billowing, pink, granny-panties, just for kicks, but really it’s your call. Regardless of what kind of undies, they have to be pink, otherwise where’s the fun?

Haha no problem. I just think it’s crazy that they would treat women like that in the name of some vague cause like undoing the Westernization of India, also known as “saving our mothers and sisters” according to someone from the Shri Ram Sena. It’s an insult to Shri Ram to have a sena like that, I’d daresay.

>Ok so going to PUB and sleeping with Muslims gives Hinduism a good Name?

>Yes , Mothers and Sisters in India are respected because they don’t drink Alcohol and aren’t loose

Alcohol use doesn’t define a person’s morality, and especially in light of the fact that limited amounts of alcohol (mostly red wine for its high tannin levels) more people in general are drinking at least a little bit for health reasons. The Hindu disdain for alcohol is not absolute, but for the sake of spiritual well-being, it is not recommended that people consume alcohol (a compound associated with tamas).
Just because a person goes to a pub does not mean they are “loose,” and because they may consume alcohol, does not mean they are morally bereft. I, for example, don’t drink but sometimes go to bars because I am meeting up with friends. What does that make me?
You make Hindu-Muslim relationships out to be such a bad thing. Why single them out, as opposed to sleeping with people in general? Interreligious relationships need not be such a taboo thing. God is one and the same across all faiths, we just approach Him in different ways. It’s high time we put those differences aside and understand that, first, we’re people.
The Shri Ram Sena may be supposedly championing Hindu ideals, but they neglected the fact that Hindus hold high the notion of nonviolence. The way they treated those women was in no way in accordance with Hinduism. Even when Sita was accused of infidelity, Sri Ram did not beat her viciously, in the manner that his namesake Sena did. I don’t exactly agree with what he did instead i.e. casting her out, but nonetheless he never lay a finger on her. Sri Ram may have been a moral figurehead, but His upholding of morals never translated to violence against women.
For better or for worse, times are changing but the level of respect women are due should never change.
